Two weeks ago I was at the Telecommunications and Media Forum run by the International Institute of Communications in Brussels. The bulk of the panels were concerned with telecommunications issues but I was speaking in their IP session entitled: Striking a Balance in Copyright and Digital Rights: How Can Rights be Protected without Restricting Consumer Flexibility? Special attention was to be paid to Recent trends in digital rights management and copyright
and the proposed WIPO broadcasting treaty and revisions to the copyright treaty: implications for business, content creators and the consumer
.
Here are the slides from my presentation. The panel was chaired by Tilman Kupfer (Head of EU Public Affairs, BT Brussels Representative Office) and included Jorgen Bloqmvist (Director, Copyright Law Division, WIPO), Christopher Boam (Director, International Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs, Verizon), Victoria Bassetti (Senior Vice President, Industry and Government Affairs, EMI), Francisco Mingorance (Director of Public Policy, Europe, BSA), Rob Kirkham (Senior Rights Negotiation Manager, BBC). Cornelia Kutterer from BEUC was also supposed to take part but unfortunately couldn’t make it at the last minute.
