The inhabitants of flatland called for our help – the population of the great plain are increasingly changing the overall structure and threatening the social cooperation: they are so heavy that they begin to bend the plain. We are looking to assemble a group of scientists, curious ladies and gentlemen and experienced data scholars to examine what leading flatlanders have described as a “global pandemic”.
We’re combining a team of storytellers, data scouts, (software) engineers, analysts and designers. But even if you feel you can’t contribute much – you probably can: don’t hesitate signing up. This expedition will look into health and body weight related data – anyone who is interested in the topic or wants to learn how to answer question using data in a lighthearted way is welcome. The outcome of the expedition will depend on the participants. We provide starting points, geeky humor and guidance – everything else will be decided by the teams.

Hi there, this sounds great but I’d like a bit more information about what will be involved in this data expedition.
Data expeditions are still an experimental concept: They are hands on data exercises around a certain topic. The first will deal with health and body weight related data – the outcome and the exact questions answered will be found by the “expedition teams”. In this data expeditions rely heavily on participation and are not defined in outcome – we are curious what will happen and whether a concept that works well with engaged people offline can be transposed online.
What we provide: Initial topics – geeky humor and guidance through a data problem – everything else is determined on the go.
OK, now I understand the “bending the plane” stuff. I really think you may want to make this clearer – the pun (and relation to Flatland) while clever really obscures what the expedition is about. Could you add something like your above paragraph to the main text and perhaps subtitle the expedition title with: Investigating the Obesity Pandemic or similar …
