  • Note that the “Edit Any Layer” plugin is not compatible with QGIS 2.0+. Not to worry as it’s only functionality (that of copying data to a “memory layer” so that it can be edited in QGIS) is now possible using the default processing tools:

    1. Open the processing toolbox (Processing->Toolbox)
    2. Search for “save selected features” in the toolbox (or locate in under Geoalgorithms/Vector/General Tools)
    3. Open “Save Selected Features”, chose the input layer, leave the output layer blank (defaulting to “[Save to temporary file]”), and tick the “Open output file after running algorithm”.
    4. Click “Run”.

(Note: This will convert all the selected features of the input layer to a “memory layer” that can then be edited and saved to any file format that QGIS supports. If you do not select any features then ALL features will be converted. The existing layer is also retained)

  • In the 1.8.0-Lisboa version, you don’t have to install “add delimited text layer” plugin, it’s already in. Just go to “Plugins” – “Manage Plugins” and enable “Add delimited text layer”.

  • Hello Lucy,

Thanks for putting up this article. I’m a graphic designer with no experience in cartography proper. I found this article while starting a project about the Tour de France (Google can be fortuitous), and am working in QGIS for the first time. I have many questions (starting with the csv you cited is no longer available) — would you possibly be available to answer a few? I can be reached at sam@sampottsinc.com.

    thanks,
    Sam
